BARNS loopwheel knitting method utilize a traditional falling loopwheel knitting system where fabric is suspended in the air and knitted using its own weight as a counterbalance. This method can only knit one meter of fabric per hour, but produces a very fine and high quality knit. Due to low production capacity, there are only a few hundred of these machines in operation today. This method, while painstaking, is an integral part of creating unique fabric expressions in our signature BARNS knits.
The fabric is knitted slowly and carefully with air on a 100-year-old "hanging knitting machine" still in existence in Wakayama Prefecture, and its greatest feature is its exquisite tension and comfort that wraps around the body.

The store is a local institution, and receives many orders every day, no matter what the request is. This item was inspired by the uniform of such a store, with a small print on the front chest and the name of the store printed in large letters on the back. The “loopwheel machine” was developed about 100 years ago in the Taisho era (1912-1926). The machine is suspended from a beam, and the weight of the knitted fabric accumulates under the machine. Also, because of the difficulty of maintenance and procurement of parts in case of breakdowns due to the old machines, they are very rare knitting machines that will eventually disappear.
