This is a 1953 model from the transitional period when denim jackets were changing from workwear to casual wear. It is commonly known as the 2nd. This classic piece that represents the 1950s is finished in original white denim with white warp threads and off-white weft threads. It is a 13-ounce selvedge denim woven on an old-fashioned shuttle loom with uneven yarns of 7 warp and 7 weft, and the red selvedge can be seen on both sides.

Made based on the vintage work shirts of the 1950s, America’s golden age, of the 9oz selvage denim woven on the power loom with rope-dyed indigo yarn. It features lap-fold triple-needle seams, pockets with flaps, and durable urea buttons.

Due to the characteristics of the material and the method of finishing, there may be slight individual differences in the dimensions of each part. Also, depending on the settings and environment of your device, the color of the product may differ slightly from the actual colour.

This denim shirt is based on vintage Western shirts from the 1950s and 60s. The denim fabric used is also made by analyzing vintage shirts and handling the spinning and dyeing processes from scratch.

At the time, many Western shirts made for Western movies and stage costumes were flashy and extravagant, with fringes and satin fabrics, but for cowboys' real, practical clothing, fabrics such as denim, chambray, and flannel were preferred. The body and sleeve seams are made with double-needle chain stitching, giving it a workwear feel, but one of its characteristics is that the waist is more fitted compared to work shirts.

Detailed Specifications

Features a Western yoke, said to have been designed to protect the shoulders in case of a fall from a horse. Snap buttons are used throughout the garment to allow for easy removal if the shirt gets caught on horse tack or cow horns during work. The pearl portion of the buttons is made from real shell (carved from seashells), resulting in individual variations in color and texture. Three buttons are used on each cuff. A luxurious construction with a total of 18 buttons on one garment. A union ticket is tucked into the inside of the placket. The stitching uses a tough chain stitch.

This is a reproduction of the "Coke stripe" work shirt that was used as a uniform by a major American beverage manufacturer in the 1950s and 1960s. It features a tough fabric that can withstand the transportation of heavy bottles. The herringbone twill fabric was woven on an old-fashioned power loom by analyzing deadstock (vintage found in brand new condition) owned by Sugar Cane. New colors navy and green are also available from this season. The clean
design without a collar stand or placket goes well with the striped pattern. The top of the flap of the left chest pocket is equipped with a throttle for a pen, and there is an additional pen pocket inside the pocket. The back yoke and cuffs are gathered instead of tucked. The side slits are made of a power cloth with selvedge, making it sturdy.

"Lot 401" is a Sugar Cane denim made with Hawaiian indigo, which is a counterweight to the Ryukyu indigo model. The silhouette is a regular straight cut similar to the 1947 model (Lot No. SC41947). The fabric has a strong blue hue and is characterized by its uneven texture. The label is a hair-on-hide with a branded image of a turtle, which is considered a divine messenger in Hawaii, and the back pocket has hand-embroidered sashiko stitching.

SUGAR CANE FIBER DENIM

"Sugar Cane denim" is an original denim made with the brand name SUGAR CANE. The fiber called "bagasse", which remains after refining sugar, is mixed with cotton and woven into the fabric. This denim, made from recycled sugar cane, has antibacterial, deodorizing, and antistatic properties due to the amino acid effect contained in Sugar Cane.

Sugar Cane & Co. Lot SC42025 / 13oz Denim Waist Overall 2025 Model (Wide Leg)

Based on the waist overalls from the same era as the 1936 denim blouse, the '2025 model' features a wider cut from the thighs to the hem, reminiscent of work pants. While original models included buttons for suspenders and a cinch back at the waist, these have been omitted in this Sugar Cane original design. However, details such as the crotch rivets and the direction of the rear center chain stitch (right high) follow the specifications of pre-war models. The fabric, like the denim blouse mentioned earlier, reproduces the slub yarns of early, imperfect spinning, promising rugged fading and natural aging. This model also comes with a newly produced green flasher.
