One of the most iconic features of vintage American T-shirts is the "Tubular Body" construction. Since this method eliminates the need for side seams, it was the gold standard for mass production in the USA during the mid-20th century.
However, as times changed and the demand for more varied sizing grew, side-seam construction eventually became the industry norm.
To faithfully recreate the authentic spirit of that era, Barns developed their TUBE T-Shirt series.
Crafted from 16-count BD (Open-End) yarn, these shirts feature a seamless tubular body and a distinctive faded texture achieved through pigment dyeing.
This season, the series has been renewed with a new silhouette: "Roomy."
By utilizing the largest diameter tubular knitting machines currently operational in Japan, we’ve created a relaxed, effortless fit that honors traditional craftsmanship while meeting modern styling needs. This special-edition piece features Marilyn Monroe, the legendary actress who captivated the world throughout the 1950s and 60s. For BARNS OUTFITTERS, this represents a rare and significant departure—a "Photo Tee" collection that stands out as a unique highlight in the brand's history.

This piece is inspired by a local outdoor brand born in Driggs, Idaho, a well-known outdoor spot.

Barns Outfitters (BR7100) COZUN Skipper Neck Polo Tee – Asst. Colours
This is a standard item produced with the unique production background of BARNS OUTFITTERS, including a small-sized knitting machine for knitting heavyweight fabrics and flat seamer sewing using U.S. sewing machines. The "COZUN" series, which began with the development of a fabric that could withstand flat seaming without overlapping the fabric, is a piece that can be used for a long time with affection as the fabric becomes familiar to the body.
Cozun knitting method utilizes a small-size knitting machine modeled after the traditional loopwheel machines used during the Taisho-era (1912-1926). This machine operates at a much more moderate speed and at a far lower degree of tension compared to its modern counterparts. This is a truly premium knitting machine, of which only a few exist in the world, which we use to create our supremely soft knit garments.

Buzz Rickson’s Lot 51904 / Gold Tiger Pattern Shorts
In the 1960s, the US military procurement headquarters in Japan chose to procure camouflage uniforms from Japan. This was because Japan had advanced printing technology, rapid production, and was also cost-effective. The patterns were left to the discretion of factories across Japan, which is why countless variations of tiger stripe patterns were created. Many of the early tiger stripes were made in Japan, but some were sent to Okinawa for sewing, and some were also manufactured in Thailand and around Vietnam during the latter part of the Vietnam War. These shorts are an original Buzz Rickson's product that has been modified by cutting the length of the pants.
