Cerebrating 150 years
GREENEBAUM BROTHERS Levi Strauss & Company obtained a patent for “Method of using metal rivets to reinforce clothing pockets” on May 20 1873, 150 years ago. A year later, on August 25, 1874, Greenbaum Brothers, also located in San Francisco, received a patent for reinforcing stress points with leather. Until the 1890s, when the patent for rivets expired, Greenbaum Brothers’ pants were supplied as durable workwear throughout the mining-rich West and Midwest. Greenbaum Brothers will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2024. They have recreated the original 19th century design, “Leatherbound Overalls,” and the original “Two-by-One Denim,” which stands out from the rest.
