Before the 1990s, many vintage American T-shirts were made using a tubular knit with no side seams—a style known as “round body.” These were ideal for mass production, as they didn’t require side seam stitching and were often used as the base for affordable, American-made tees at the time. However, adjusting the body width on tubular machines was not easy, which eventually led to a shift toward side-seamed construction that allowed for more flexibility in sizing. This T-shirt faithfully reproduces that classic American vintage style using a tubular knit (no side seams). As part of our Fall/Winter 2025 collection launch, it comes in versatile, all-season colors and is finished with BARNS OUTFITTERS signature pigment dyeing, giving it a worn-in look with timeless appeal. Thanks to the 360-degree double binder stitching, this design not only adds a stylish accent but also results in a tough, durable piece that embodies the ideal BARNS OUTFITTERS spirit. This construction effectively minimizes neck stretching and distortion, common issues with T-shirts. The fabric uses 18-count OE (Open End) yarn, which contains more air within the fibers, offering excellent moisture absorption and quick-drying properties. Buzz Rickson’s Lot BR12744 / US NAVY Dungaree Jumper
This denim utility jacket was adopted by the US Navy in the 1930s. Its official name is a dungaree jumper, and the warp threads are dyed with a dark indigo dye to hide stains from work, while the weft threads are made of twisted heather yarn. The buttons are fastened with a G-ring from the back, which is called a "change button." Unlike tuck buttons, they do not require special fastening tools, and since they are not fastened with threads, they have a rational detail that prevents them from falling off due to thread breakage. The collar is a shawl collar with no tip, so that it will not flap even when exposed to strong winds when working on the deck of a ship, and the back of the collar is cut on the bias, so after repeated washing, a unique distortion appears as wrinkles, giving it a deep flavor.
