The author, Utagawa Kuninaga, is an ukiyo-e artist in the late Edo period who was active as a disciple of the first Toyokuni Utagawa. Based on the information of Egypt that came in via the Netherlands, he was famous as a unique writer, such as making a pyramid and Babylon Castle appear in his work. Known as the masterpiece of the mayor, Tsuchigumo was synonymous with youkai at the time, appearing in the Heike Monogatari "Sword Volume", the Muromachi period picture scroll "Tsuchigumo Soshi", and Nogaku works. And various anecdotes such as the famous sword "Kumokiri" that slashed the Tsuchigumo are included.
